THE STORY BEHIND THE BJ42 LAND CRUISER: A BJ42 is just like an FJ40 but they are factory equipped with a 3"B" class diesel motor and not the "F" class gas motor. Toyota has always offered it's Land Cruiser models with these desirable diesel motors, and if you look in the Australian Outback, South America, Africa or elsewhere it's the diesel version you will find, but for whatever reason, Toyota USA has never offered the diesel models into the USA. Finding a decent diesel 40 series in North America is tough. Canada did get Land Cruisers with both Gas and Diesel motors.
This vehicle is a rare BJ42 diesel model. It is right hand drive and is a nice original unit, in great running order, with a very solid body, with no signs of hard wear, or off road abuse. It is equipped with a factory installed Toyota 3 B diesel engine, and 12 Volt Heavy duty electrics. This truck is a very solid example in very stock condition
TOYOTA DIESEL ENGINE The 3B Diesel engine was built by the Toyota owned Hino Truck engine factory in Japan. These motors are part of the B family of Toyota Diesels, and are legendary for their long term reliability, low-end torque, and excellent fuel mileage. They are also found in other diesel Land Cruiser models. They have a time proven track record of almost indestructibility. Many of these motors go well over 500,000+ kilometers (310,000+ Miles) before re-build, if maintained properly. Land Cruisers can be lifetime trucks, and the B family are time-tested lifetime engines. The engine and drive train in this Land Cruiser are in excellent original shape. The engine starts easily, and operates smoothly. The motor runs cool, and doesn't stall or sputter. In Canada Land Cruisers came in both Gas and Diesel versions, the diesels quickly became the motor of choice, due to their reliability, very good fuel economy, and great bottom end torque that makes them very good off road. If you know about 4x4's you know "Land Cruisers" are the best. If you know about Land Cruisers, you know the "Diesels" are the best.
TRANSMISSION and DRIVETRAIN The whole drive train is very solid on this BJ42. The transmission and transfer case operate properly, and shift smoothly without grinding or noise. No clunking when under acceleration/deceleration.
